A South Carolina woman was bitten by a nine-foot alligator as she was walking her dog Monday night, police said.
The 68-year-old woman was walking her dog near a Sun City pond around 10 pm. when the big animal attacked her, the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.
The woman was bitten by hand, wrist and leg, the police department said.
State-engaged alligator trappers were sent to the area and captured the alligator after it escaped from the pond, authorities said.
The animal was euthanized after its capture.
The wounded woman is recovering at a local hospital, the police said.
