Questlove explains his fear of appearing in R. Kelly's doc

Questlove said he did not want to appear in Lifetime's documentary about R. Kelly because he did not want to become a fan of the singer.

"I've always thought that Kels was a junk. My reason for rejecting the RKelly document that I support at 10,000,000 percent is that I did not want to be in the "good time" part of the document, as to freeze its "genius," wrote the Roots drummer in a tweet. deleted since (via Vibe). "I was asked to talk about his genius .I have never done it and I have never done it.

"Surviving R. Kelly", a six-part docus that started on the cable network on Thursday night, explains how the 51-year-old singer of "Trapped in the Closet" has spent the last two decades abusing underage girls.

In an interview with Shadow and Act, executive producer dream Hampton explained how difficult it was to convince influential music personalities – aside from John Legend – to sit down for an interview on the controversial singer.

"John Legend was the only one," she told the website. "I asked Jay-Z, I asked Mary J. Blige, I asked Lil Kim, Erykah Badu, Dave Chappelle … I mean, most people just do not want to to touch. I remember Ahmir [‘Questlove’ Thompson] it was like, "I would do anything for you but I can not do that." It's not because they support it, it's because it's so muddy and muddy. It is this refusal that allowed this to continue.

Questlove's tweets seem to have been an attempt to make it clear that he does not support Kelly, even though he refused to appear in the documentary.

"I just want it to be clearly stated in a way that's not" protesting too much. " [dream hampton] quote gives the impression that I protect it, "he writes in another tweet." I thought to myself "I absolutely do not want to be the guy I'm always in documentaries who love someone I hate . "Then do ZERO error on my positioning."

Hampton, however, did not buy this explanation, answeringI did not ask you questions about his "genius". I asked you to come in front of the camera and say the same thing you said on Twitter. I told you that I needed black male allies.

Following the response of hampton, Questlove removed his tweets.
