Replacement of one Patio door lock is not difficult. Here is a short article on how to easily replace a patio lock. There may be variations depending on the type of door you have, but the basic steps are the same.
Step 1 – Lock Type
Make sure you buy the right type of lock for the door. You can determine it from the make and model number of the current lock.
Step 2 – Unscrew the lock
Unlock the patio door and remove the door lock. Be sure to unscrew the screws on the inside of the door. These internal screws are responsible for holding the lock. As soon as you unscrew them, the lock is undone.
Step 3 – Remove the strike from the door
Remove the striker from the door jamb. The part of the lock in which the door slips calls the strike. There is an opening in the edge of the door that inserts into the striker when the door is closed. When the lock is turned, the lock handle will slide down.
Step 4 – Insert the lock
The new lock can now be inserted into the opening of the patio door located inside. Place the back of the lock in the outside patio door opening. Now hold the two pieces together, then insert and tighten the screws. Make sure the screws are tight and the latch will not come out.
Step 5 – Fix the strike
Now, tie the striker in the door jamb. Make sure the unlocking mechanism is working properly and make the necessary adjustments.
